We are not a business. We are a family who has shared our home with this remarkable breed for more than thirty years.
I’m Anne Barbro. I grew up in Norway and fell head over heels for the Norwegian Elkhound in the summer of 1976. Since 2003, I’ve brought sire and dam to Canada — and what began with one beloved pair has grown into four generations of healthy, hearty companions.
Every Ruterfem puppy is born in our home, raised with constant human company, and treated as family from day one.

CKC Registered
Every puppy is purebred, micro-chipped and registered with the Canadian Kennel Club.
Health Tested
Hips, eyes, and overall wellness are tested through our Veterinarian and VetGen DNA before any breeding.
Max four litters in a lifespan
Each female has no more than four litters in her lifetime, and only one per year. After that, she retires to a long, carefree life as a family member.
Norwegian Lineage
Our line begins with Dronning Maud and Rune-Milo, imported from Norway in 2003. Every Ruterfem litter since has traced back to them and to the careful NKK imports we’ve made along the way.
Family First
Our dogs are cherished family members, always — never kennel stock. Kitchen-bred and home-raised. Cared for and held, snuggled and played with from the moment they became alert and mobile.
Thoughtful pairings
We choose studs and dam for compatibility of temperament, conformation, and to avoid close lineage. Every breeding is considered for years, not week.

The Norwegians are proud of their Moose-dog. Elghund truly means Moose-dog — and the breed was once portrayed on Norway’s currency.
They love the outdoors and the mountains. But what they love most of all is their human companions.
